More and more people are turning to cosmetic doctors for rejuvenation techniques to help their face reflect the way they feel inside. One such rejuvenation technique is the BOTOX treatment. It can be used to relax specific facial muscles that cause facial wrinkles. At Royal West Medical Spa, our qualified dermatologists perform Botox treatment to both repair and restore skin health, improve confidence, and rejuvenate a person’s overall outlook on life.
What is BOTOX treatment?
BOTOX is a natural, purified protein that relaxes wrinkle causing muscles, creating a rejuvenated appearance. The active ingredient in BOTOX treatment is derived from bacteria in much the same way penicillin is derived from mould. It is manufactured in sterile laboratory conditions.
BOTOX is a prescription-only medicine and treatment is only available from a qualified medical professional.
BOTOX Cosmetic is most commonly used for:
- Frown Lines
- Lines around the eyes (crow’s feet)
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Nasal scrunch or squint lines
- Lines on neck
What does BOTOX treatment involve?
BOTOX treatment is a non-surgical procedure whereby a small amount of BOTOX is administered into selected facial muscles by a trained doctor using a very fine needle. Generally, a BOTOX treatment takes around 10 minutes. Discomfort is typically minimal and brief, the injection may sting for a few seconds. Normal activities can be resumed soon after.
The dose recommended for the treatment will vary depending on your individual situation and the severity of lines. Our dermatologist know what the best dose is for you and which muscles to inject to give you the best results.
How long does Botox take to work?
The effects are may be first noticed in 72 hours but it may take up to 7 days to maximize the effect. You may be asked to return after the first treatment so that your provider can assess your response. The first set of injections may only give a partial response. This is common and complete relaxation may be noticed after the second or third treatment.
What can I expect after treatment?
One of the appeals of Botox is minimal downtime or major activity restrictions after treatment. With only a few limitations, patients may return to their usual activities immediately after an appointment. Limitations are generally up to the discretion of the patient and their provider, but it is advisable to avoiding bending over or manipulating the treatment area for the remainder of the day in order to allow the product to settle evenly. We also recommend not laying down within the first two hours.
You may also wish to skip your daily workout for the same reason, and avoid any blood-thinning products or medications, such as aspirin or alcohol, for a few days before and after your procedure.
